Mowgli

Hello and welcome to Mowgli. Such a sweet rescue dog. Another that has found itself suffuring elbow dysplasia. Such a shockingly common disease these days. Although its most likely we are simply better at diagnosing it.

He was referred to a specialist who did an arthrscopy. He was very good. He felt there was some drastic surgery needed, but on further investigation only the arthoscopy was needed. It was also suggested an elbow replacement may be needed in the future.

Mowgli did really well and was pain free for a year. But he has now started to show lameness again.

Its always fully expected that following these interventions, arthritis will still creep in, but hopefully later than it would if the intervention was not done. On exam and discussion it seems like arthritis is not the likely cause of lameness yet.

So we have set Mowgli up with some muscle building and a more gentle home regime so we can regain more normal limb use. However, it is likely we need to all work as a team in this case, and so the specialist may need to look at the cartilage in the elbow again, as some more may have broken and so may also need removing. We shall see how his progression goes.

Good luck mum and Mowgli. Your doing a great job.
